On 14 & 15 August 2019, the Center of Foundation Studies in Science, University of Malaya organized the 2nd National STEM Seminar 2019. I took this opportunity to present my action research. The research title was “Mobile Learning in Tutorial Classroom: Effects on Students’ Motivation”.
On the 15-16/11/2018, my team participated in the University Malaya Research Carnival 2018 at Dewan Tunku Canselor, University of Malaya. We were representing the Center for Foundation Studies in Science, University of Malaya. In this carnival, we exhibit our research on Improving Pre-University Students’ Understanding in Probability using KaDaGeo, a Hybrid Teaching Method.
Pada 20/10/2018, saya telah membuat pembentangan di Kolokium Antarabangsa Kajian Tindakan Pendidikan, anjuran PIBG SMKSAS PJ – UNISEL di Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Abdul Samad Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Kolokium ini merupakan satu platform pagi guru-guru sekolah menengah dan rendah untuk membentangkan kajian tindakan pengajaran mereka. Ini memberi peluang kepada mereka untuk bertukar idea dan membuat jaringan baharu.
On the 13/10/2018, I attended the Teacher’s Conference Malaysia 2018 (TECOF18) at Ancasa Hotel & Spa, Kuala Lumpur. The event was organized by Kangaroo Math Malaysia. The event was the first time held and participated mostly by school teachers. The program includes the direction of STEMs in Malaysia, challenges and difficulties in teaching at schools. The experts came from various fields; academician, practitioner and people in the industry.
On the 19th August 2018, my daughter participated in the Globalart’s National Art Competition 2018. The event was held at Putrajaya International Convention Center (PICC). About 1000 children from around Malaysia participated in the competition. It was a huge event. The winner walked away with a sponsored trip to Myanmar to participate in the Global Art Competition.
One of the booth at 1st National Seminar on STEM Mentor-Mentee 2018, 1st August 2018, was promoting these three competitions for primary school students.
- Beaver Computational Thinking Competition – March (every year)
- Kangaroo Math Competition – April (every year)
- Kancil Science Competition – May (every year)
Saturday, 2nd June 2018 marks the end of the second part of the Diploma in Education program which started on September 2017. This means I have another 2 months to complete my practical training. The program was provided by Faculty of Education, University of Malaya.
On February 2018, me and with other 8 members of King Scout from the batch of MCKK year 1998, was given a special honor to receive the award from the Sultan Azlan Shah, Ruler of Perak Darul Ridzuan. The event was held Bangunan Negeri Perak, Ipoh. 10 years has passed since I last wore the uniform. It was a great moment, reliving all the good and bad moments that I had went through.
Last weekend, 13-14/1/2018 we had JTK KK5 Workshop. The 2 day and 1-night workshop were held at Dash Box Hotel Cyberjaya. This workshop was customary to all new student leaders. It is part of their preparation as a leader. As a Treasurer and one of the fellows at 5th Residential Collge, University of Malaya, I was asked to teach on our Financial Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Mathematics is one of the essential skills required for any kids. Combined with some programming skills and creativity, they can come out with so many amazing stuff. I put mathematic mastery as one of my priority for the kids. The standard school has provided the essence. But I know I need to give my kids a different perspective on mathematics. I wantthem to explore and apply their knowledge in real life. So one of the ways is entering Mathematics Competitions.
